Bill Murray Day, Festival Street party announced for TIFF

Mark your calendars: The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has declared Sept. 5 to be Bill Murray Day!

Far superior to Thanksgiving and Christmas, Bill Murray Day pays tribute to the beloved actor by offering a full day of free movie screenings for three of Bill's comedy classics – Stripes, Groundhog Day and Ghostbusters.

The films will play from 10 am to 6 pm at the TIFF Bell Lightbox, with free tickets available for pickup from 8 am.

Fans who attend all three screenings are eligible to win a ticket to the world premiere of the actor's new comedy-drama, St. Vincent, which also stars Chris O’Dowd, Naomi Watts and Melissa McCarthy.

And that’s not the only exciting festival news being served up this week.

Another new, budget-friendly option for TIFF buffs is the Festival Street initiative, which will turn Toronto’s Entertainment District into a pedestrian-friendly promenade from Sept. 4 to 7.

The four-day street fair — which will effectively shut down King Street from University Avenue to Peter Street — will feature works of art, live music, food trucks, pop-up performances and more, giving TIFF attendees (and curious passersby) the opportunity to mix and mingle between screenings.
