Long before Soho House Toronto was erected at the intersection of Adelaide and Simcoe, the allure of the international members-only club had already taken full effect.
In 2011, Grey Goose partnered with Soho House to launch a Toronto International Film Festival pop-up party and everyone in town was on board. For starters, Harvey Weinstein threw a giant bash with Ewan McGregor, Dustin Hoffman, Naomi Watts, William H. Macy, John Hawkes, Stephen Dorff, Nina Dobrev and Helen Hunt in attendance.

The biggest selling point? Privacy-seeking celebrities need not worry about being caught with one too many martinis as no smartphone cameras are allowed - and we all know that no selfies means no photographic evidence.

Then there was the A Dangerous Method party in 2011 that seemed to attract almost every A-lister in existence. The megawatt guest list included: David Cronenberg, Keira Knightley, Emily Blunt, Kate Mara, Adam Scott, Jonah Hill, Ryan Gosling, George Clooney, Chris Pratt, Anna Faris, Jimmy Kimmel, Kirsten Dunst, Emile Hirsch, Gina Gershon, Paz de la Huerta, Jon Hamm, Justin Long and Evan Rachel Wood.

Some wondered if the same mystique would be attached to Soho House once it opened its permanent (but still quite nondescript) doors, but those doubts were put to rest in 2012. Since Soho House Toronto’s permanent digs opened, the exclusive card-carrying club has attracted its own crush of celebrities.

Bill Murray has been seen dancing into the wee hours of the night; Michael Fassbender was once spotted slow-dancing to R. Kelly; and the haven has been a hotbed of activity for post-premiere fetes for Daniel Radcliffe, Julia Roberts, Taylor Swift, Juno Temple, Tom Welling, Colin Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dakota Fanning, Jesse Eisenberg, Jason Bateman and more.

If history repeats itself yet again, then a surefire way to spot a celebrity during TIFF is to always be a stone’s throw from the velvet rope at Toronto’s Soho House.
