Earlier this year, Bachelor Nation watched with sadness as Canadian “Bachelorette’ Kaitlyn Bristowe parted ways with Jared Haibon. A gentleman right to the end (he offered her his coat even after he got the boot!), the Rhode Island native left the show broken-hearted but eager to get back in the dating game. A few weeks later he arrived on the sandy beaches of Mexico with hopes of finding love on Bachelor in Paradise. Even though he had an instant fan in the beautiful Ashley I., cupid failed to work his magic and Jared left the show without finding his one true love. Hello! caught up with the handsome bachelor at Eligible Magazine’s TIFF Bachelor Party in Toronto to talk about dating on television, being called out by Ashton Kutcher on Twitter, celebrity crushes and what it takes to win his heart.
Is there anything fans don’t realize about dating on television?
Everything’s heightened. There’s a lot of pressure because I was there trying to find someone to spend the rest of my life with. In the real world, you can go back to your own life if you go on a bad date, you don’t have to see that person again. Whereas, if you hang out with someone who really likes you but you may not have the same feelings, you’re living with that person, so you have to try to find that balance between being honest and not being a jerk.

Where were you when you first saw Ashton Kutcher’s tweet about you?
I was in L.A. After filming After Paradise I went out for a drink with Samantha, Chris and Ashley I. On my way back, Ashley I. calls me and she’s like, ‘Ashton Kutcher just tweeted a photo of you.’ I was like, ‘Shut. Up.’ Then I read the caption about how Mila Kunis sat him in front of the TV because she thought we did look-alike. It was like, ‘All right. This is the coolest thing that’s ever happened to me.’ I’ve been told that I look like Ashton before, but never in my life would I ever have imagined that I’d be the one on TV and Ashton Kutcher is sitting next to it. It was a really awesome moment.
Hypothetically, if a celebrity had walked down the steps into Paradise, who would you have wanted it to be?
Has what you’re looking for in a partner changed at all since you’ve been on the show?
I’m always looking for a strong connection with somebody. Obviously there’s a long list of qualities and characteristics I look for, but for the most part, it’s about looking for somebody who gives me butterflies or has that ‘it’ factor.
